Cathedral City

Almost all the cities in Coachella Valley are named after the unique landscape or discovery the landscape provides.  Cathedral City is no different.  In 1850, Col. Henry Washington of the United States Army Corps viewed the area's canyons as a mirror to the Grand Cathedral.As he studied the area he labeled the area Cathedral Canyon.  In 1925 the first subdivision opened and the area officially became Cathedral City.In 1981, Cathedral City officially incorporated.

   Today, Cathedral City maintains it's small town family focused community but it embraces it's many big city amenities.Cathedral City focuses on residential services including a state of the art Public Library, shopping, one of a kind parks and expanding entertainment options.  The city hosts monthly Concerts in the Square. The free concert event includes a three-hour concert, food vendors and exhibits where local artists and business owners display their wares.  Oh, don't be alarmed if you hear the phrase "Cat City."  The local residents proudly refer to their city with this nickname.

PARKS

Are you a baseball enthusiast?  Would you like to see what it's like to play in a major league park?  Cathedral City residents enjoy many entertainment choices including, Big League Dreams Sport Park.  This park has several replicas of Major League Baseball fields.  Come satisfy your baseball dreams.

THEATERS

Have you experience an IMAX movie?  Cathedral City is the home to two theaters and one of them is the Desert IMAX Theater which provides the best movie experience to date.  Come view the latest IMAX movie and immerse yourself into the experience with surround sound and the 6-story high movie screen.  The second option is Cathedral City's movie theater. All the latest blockbuster movies are shown at the Mary Pickford Theater.
